Ashton Agar Domestic Career

There is always room for all-rounders in cricket. Ashton Agar belongs to the modern generation of Australian cricketers, who like to contribute in all three fields of the game. He started his career and represented Victoria in both under-17 and under-19. An efficient batsman, a capable bowler and an active fielder, Ashton Agar is an asset to both the national and domestic teams he plays for.

He represented Victoria at both U17 & U19 level. After not being called up to senior level in Victoria, Ashton Agar moved his base to Western Australia for the 2012–13 season. He made his 1st class debut for Western Australia in a Sheffield Shield match against New South Wales. In his 2nd Sheffield Shield match, Agar shared a record 10-wicket partnership of 94 runs with Michael Hogan. After his debut in Australia’s oldest domestic competition, he was called up for the 2012–2013 Australia tour of India, where he played one tour match.

Ashton Agar International Career

Agar was selected to tour England, Scotland and Ireland with Australia N in June 2013. Along with Fawad Ahmed, a Pakistani exile who was granted Australian citizenship in early July 2013, he was generally seen as a last-ditch Australian crew. For the 2013 Ashes arrangements in England.
He made his One Day (ODI) International debut on 8 September, 2015 against England. He made his Twenty20 international debut for Australia on 6 March 2016 against South Africa.
On 21 February 2020, in the first T20I coordinate against South Africa, Agar became the second, and thirteenth bowler by a large margin, for Australia to perform a keeping stunt in a T20I match. He finished the match with figures of 5/24 in his four overs, his first five-wicket haul in a T20I match.

The debutant entered the ground when Australia were 117 for 9. His debut was so memorable that he scored 98 runs, the highest ever scored by an Australian debutant. And he took the team to a lead of more than 50 runs, but his effort failed with only 2 runs and a debut century. Agar hails from a Sri Lankan background with a height of 178 cm and his physical attributes suggest that he is suited as a left-arm spinner. He joined the team as a back-up spinner behind Aston Turner for the Under-19 team, quickly developing into the team’s lead spinner. Apart from cricket, Ashton studied law at Dean University. Ashton Agar’s parents are Sonya Havisa and John Agar. His mother Sonia Arjun is the daughter of Nala Hewawesa and Sheila Hewawesa who migrated to Australia. Ashton’s mother Sonia was just 12 when her parents came to Australia with her siblings Shireen, Rowan (December) and Ajith. Ashton’s paternal grandfather Hawesa himself has been a cricketer representing Dharmaraja College cricket team. His grandmother, Sheila Huwesa, worked at the Salon Tea Board before immigrating to Australia.
