Mark Wood Domestic Career
Hailing from Northumberland, Mark Wood played for them between 2008 to 2010. He joined Durham in 2011 & impressed in his first season with 19 wickets at an impressive average of 21.63. It was during a time when Paul Collingwood was developing young talent that helped Wood greatly and was instrumental in Durham’s County Championship victory in 2013.
Due to some consistent performances in the domestic circuit, Wood earned his first Test call-up during the 2015 series against New Zealand. He was quite exceptional in his first series and took 14 wickets in the series. Despite his impressive debut series, he was overlooked for the third Ashes Test in favor of Steve Finn. Despite a few injuries here and there, Wood remained on the selection radar due to his tight nature and pace.
Injuries have been part and parcel of any fast bowler’s life and Mark Wood is no exception. He emerged as a potent option for England after their 2015 World Cup debacle and his pace made all the difference.
Mark Wood was in Australia but plying his trade for the England Lions in limited overs matches in domestic season. However, the selectors were not convinced if Mark Wood had the fitness level to bowl in the 5 day match. MarkWood has always been a good bowler for England &was quite exceptional during their triumphant 2019 World Cup campaign, taking 18 wickets in the quadrennial event. He was snapped up by Chennai Super Kings in the 2018 IPL auction but managed to play only a solitary match.
